Zack Snyder spoke to the New York Post about his upcoming film, Man of Steel. Of course, the topic of the looming Justice League movie and what Superman’s eventual role would be was brought up. In the past Snyder seemed reluctant to admit that his version of Superman would appear in the Justice League movie, but he seems to have changed his position somewhat.
When asked whether Man of Steel would lead into a larger DC franchise he had this to say:
I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.
He also said:
I don’t know how ‘Justice League’ is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t, but ‘The Man of Steel’ exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.
So it seems that Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in Man of Steel, will remain in the role for the foreseeable future, provided the film does well. This will be the second reboot of the Superman franchise since 2006. Should this one disappoint fans like Superman Returns did that may mean a new Superman will appear in Justice League.
The Green Lantern, who is set to appear in Justice League, may have a similar fate. After last year’s disappointing Green Lantern film fans have been split as to whether to move forward with Ryan Reynolds or to reboot the character for Justice League. The one thing we know for sure is that there will be a new version of Batman in the film as Christian Bale’s version of the character will not be involved.
