The trailers keep coming out of Comic-Con and now we have a very long look at Kick-Ass 2. At 4 and 1/2 minutes, this plays more like a short film than it does a trailer. The trailer noticeably features very little Jim Carrey. I’d imagine his recent bashing of the film has something to do with that. A few weeks ago Carrey tweeted, “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence, my apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.” This does look pretty damn violent, but it’s cartoonish over-the-top violence that doesn’t hold any bearing in real life.
The sequel sees costumed high-school superhero Kick-Ass joining forces with a group of normal citizens who have been inspired to fight crime in costume. Meanwhile, Red Mist plots an act of revenge that will affect everyone Kick-Ass knows.

Kick-Ass 2 stars Aaron Taylor Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, and (to his chagrin) Jim Carrey. It opens on August 16th.
