According to Deadline Craig Brewer, who recently finished directing the Footloose remake for Paramount, has been hired by Warner Bros. to write and direct a new installment of Tarzan.
Apparently Brewer has come up with a take that tells the Tarzan story over three films, and it’s a passion project for the director who has turned down other movies in order to make it. Warner Bros. also has screenwriter Adam Cozad (Jack Ryan reboot) working on a script that tells a different version of the man raised by apes, so the studio will have to decide which one to move forward with.
There have been numerous attempts to relaunch Tarzan over the years, and back in 2009 we heard about G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra director Stephen Sommers being attached to direct Tarzan: Lord of the Jungle which had a script from Australia screenwriter Stuart Beattie. That doesn’t look like it’s moving forward now, but Warner Bros. may have more luck with these latest efforts.
