We’ve been getting lots of X-Men: First Class news over recent days as they finalize casting ready for filming. While the minor character slots are being filled, i’m still interested in one of the most surprising casting choices for the film which is probably the only role we know nothing about; Kevin Bacon as the villain.
20th Century Fox has been happy for us to know who will be playing Xavier, Magneto and the other main characters, but Bacon’s role is still being kept under-wraps. In a recently interview director Matthew Vaughn spoke about the casting, and while he didn’t reveal who Bacon will be playing, he did say Bacon is “really going for it” and “will surprise” us.
From Splash Page:
“I don’t think it would be right to give that away, but he’s really going for it,” said Vaughn when asked about Bacon’s character in the film. “He’s really up for it, and he’s going for it. I’m just thrilled that we could get him.”
Vaughn heaped praise on the “Footloose” actor, and confessed to being a fan of Bacon’s work “for as long as I can remember. Calling Bacon “a proper legendary actor,” the director hinted that revealing anything more about the film’s villain would spoil some big moments in the story — namely, his character’s entrance.
“He will surprise you,” said Vaughn. “I’ll put it that way: He will surprise you with the kind of things he will do in this movie. He’s not going to be what you expect at all when you first meet him in the film, you will be surprised that it’s him.”
There was speculation that he will play Mr. Sinister or possibly Hellfire Club leader Sebastian Shaw, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
In other X-Men: First Class news Deadline are reporting that Oliver Platt (2012, Frost/Nixon) has joined the cast as ‘The Man in Black’. No other information is given other than the character is human, and with a name like that i’m willing to bet he’ll be up to no good.
