Upcoming Superhero Movies 2014 and 2015 Guide

avengersWith Comic-Con 2013 out of the way and all the major announcement made it’s time to have a look at all the upcoming superhero movies expected to hit the big screen over the next few years (2013, 2014 and 2015). Whether people like it or not superhero movies are here to stay, and they will continue to dominate the big screen as long as audiences flock to them.

Below is a list of all the confirmed upcoming superhero movies, followed by some films studios have the in pipeline for 2014, 2015 and beyond.

Upcoming Superhero Movies 2014

April 2014

captain-america-2 Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the first Marvel movie to open in 2014. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers/Captain America and the film will see his struggle to accept his new life in the modern day. The plot involves James 'Bucky' Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) return as a Soviet assassin called the Winter Soldier. S.H.I.E.L.D agents Black Widow/Falcon/Nick Fury also feature in the film and they will join Captain America in his fight to take down his former friend.

May 2014

amazing spider man movie1 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will continue the rebooted saga with Andrew Garfield returning as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone back as Gwen Stacy. There will be many new faces (both friend and foe) in the form of Electro (Jamie Foxx) Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan). Shailene Woodley filmed scenes as Mary Jane Watson but it was ultimately decided to introduce the character in later films.
days-of-future-past-posters X-Men: Days of Future Past is my most anticipated out of all the upcoming superhero movies. Director of X1 and X2 Bryan Singer has returned and he's found a storyline which unites the old gang from his original trilogy (Hugh Jackman/Halle Berry/Ian McKellen/Patrick Stewart) with the fresh faces of X-Men: First Class (James McAvoy/Jennifer Lawrence/Michael Fassbender/Nicholas Hoult). The story is based on the comic storyline by Chris Claremont and John Byrne and will see Wolverine's mind transported back in time to prevent giant robots known as Sentinels hunting mutants in the future.

June 2014

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesI think we can count Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles among the list upcoming superhero movies as they are a group of good guys fighting bad guys. Michael Bay is producing the reboot and Wrath of the Titans director Jonathan Liebesman is in charge of directing. The film will tell the (new) big screen origins of the turtles who are spawned by aliens who invade Earth. The turtles must defend the world against said aliens with the help of Megan Fox as April O'Neil.

August 2014

Guardians_of_the_galaxy_2014 Guardians of the Galaxy is the second movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to open in 2014 and it is probably the riskiest movie to date. The build-in fan-base is smaller than other adaptations and there are some crazy elements (a talking raccoon for example) but this could all help Guardians of the Galaxy stand out from the rest. The film takes place mostly in space and follows an American pilot (Chris Pratt) and a group of futuristic ex-cons who go on the run with a highly coveted object.

Upcoming Superhero Movies 2015

March 2015

fantastic-four-reboot The Fantastic Four will return in rebooted form thanks to Chronicle director Josh Trank. Very little is known about the story or plot but 20th Century Fox will apparently create a shared universe with their X-Men franchise. This may lead to a crossover movie further down the line but the studio will need to successfully launch The Fantastic Four first.

May 2015

avengersThe Avengers: Age of Ultron will be the sequel to Marvel's The Avengers and reunites all the characters from the first film. Director Joss Whedon has confirmed Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch will join the team to keep things fresh. Ultron will be the villain (as the title suggests) and Whedon has said he will be doing his own origin story of Ultron.

Summer 2015

superman-batman-logo The big news at Comic-Con 2013 was that Batman and Superman will be appearing in the same film. It will be a sequel to Man of Steel so Henry Cavill and other actors featured in the film will be returning. Batman (who is unlikely to be played by Christian Bale) will probably be his foe but I imagine things will be resolved by the end for a Justice League movie afterwards. Zack Snyder is directing and he said it will take some elements from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns comic.

November 2015

Ant-ManEdgar Wright has been attached to direct Ant-Man for years and with The World's End complete he can now focus on getting it made. The script is finished and casting will apparently get under-way later in 2013. Ant-Man follows a brilliant scientist who invents a substance that allowed him to change his size.

In Development

Doctor Strange – Marvel’s Kevin Feige has confirmed “Phase Three” will include the magician
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 – Sony has set a release date for June 2016
The Amazing Spider-Man 4 – Sony also set a May 2018 release for a fourth Spider-Man film
X-Force – Fox will expand the X-Men universe with an X-Force movie. Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is set to write and direct
Justice League – Warner Bros. have been trying for years, and after the Batman/Superman movie this could be the next step
The Flash – Apparently Warner Bros. is eyeing a 2016 release
Wonder Woman – This movie has been in development for a while, and we may see a Wonder Woman movie after Justice League

Which upcoming superhero movies are you looking forward to?

  • K1CK455

Man, i can’t wait to see DS movie.

  • Bleak5170

I’m a huge X-men fan but since i can’t stand Bryan Singer, my hopes rest with the X-force movie. But I’m also beyond excited for the sequels to Thor and Avengers.

    • SubSumeYou

Aye. What Bryan Singer did to the X-Men is a damned sorry mess.

  • sj

are they ever going to make a Deadpool movie? I would love that…if it’s rated R

    • http://filmonic.com Liam

It’s been in development for a while. I can’t see it happening as Ryan Reynolds hasn’t been that successful lately (R.I.P.D) so Fox may be against the idea.

      • Martin Phipps

Liefeld said that Deadpool will be in X-Force and he considers a Deadpool solo movie to still be in development.

  • superturbo

I’Frankenstein starring Aaron Eckhart in the title role, is missing from the 2014 lineup and comes out in February next year. Why was it missed from this list? Also; nor is “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” (comic book related) which comes out for the spring of 2014.

And the always rumored these days; “Masters of the Universe” reboot film.

  • NewEngland_Batman

The Marvel ones especially X-man DOFP and Amazing Spiderman 2.

I’ve lost faith in WB and DC due to their bad decision making and utter disrespect for the fans and moviegoers. I still love DC comics but I longer look forward to their films.
This has nothing to do with Ben Affleck being Batman.

I also excited to find out who will play cable in X-force. Guy Pearce maybe?

  • mhsmall84

They should do a remake of Spawn

  • Bookie

Amazing Spiderman 2, and the Batman/Superman movie sounds interesting- even if it’s just to see how they do it. looking forward to X-Men:DoFP, being a huge X-men fan, but I didn’t much like the original trilogy.
So are they admitting that the X-men and Avengers universes are the same by putting Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers: AoU? or were they always the same and someone forgot to tell me?

    • Tim

They were always the same, just as Spiderman is in the same universe as well. The only reason that we don’t see Spiderman or the X-Men in an Avengers movie is because different studios own the movie rights to the different properties. It would be great if the studios could come together down the road after Avengers 3 to bring Marvel’s civil war story to the big screen. That would be amazing.

  • John Taylor

Will not go see Supes and Batty together. Never really cared about the Batman character and so far, everything DC has presented us with – tv and movies – have been a real disappointment. Especially the newest attempt at Superman. Went to see it in spite of my misgivings based on the supersuit. Wish I’d been wrong, but I wasn’t. That supersuit was so far from any of the comic book version as to be a total distraction. Actually, that helped me sit through the whole movie. If I’d realized that the whole script was a cheat, I might have walked out on it. Cheat? How you ask? Simple. Took it directly from the pilot movie for the animated series. How do I know this? HUB channel was advertising the animates series the same day I saw the movie. Every scene they selected was word-for-word the same as in the new movie.

    • nfp1090

your lying. if u dont like MoS just say so. dont make up delusions.

      • John Taylor

Funny, I thought that was what I said. Giving my reasons why. Delusions? Hub channel advertised the series. As this was the same day that I saw the movie, details were still fresh in my mind. Every clip Hub used matched a scene in the movie. Had this been one or two, I might have said it was a coincidence. As there were five, maybe seven such clips, I can only conclude that DC could not come up with a workable script. To get the movie produced, they CHEATED and used the animated series.

    • Tejus

‘Never really cared about the batman character’.. that statement alone is enough to not really care about any of your comments. Seriously.. what a joke! And upon that calling ‘Man of steel a real disappointment’.. in that case your life must be pretty filled with disappointments. MoS was the first successful venture of superman.
You need to pay some respect to the hard work of 100s of people that brings out one good piece of work. Nothing will ever be perfect. But the fact that it has garnered millions of fans around the world, has to mean something..!
And if you dont really care about any of it.. then what are you doing here? There’s no need for useless negative comments.

      • John Taylor

As for the disappointment, see my reply to nfp1090.What has my disappointment have to do with the hard work of the people that put the movie together? A script that was a cheat has nothing to do with the work of all the people who put it together. They can only work with what they are given. Did not say I didn’t care about Superman, just Batman. As for what I’m doing on here, I aM VOICING A VALID OPINION. If you don’t like it, then you have a very narrow point of view. A broader point of view would be willing to accept an opinion that disagrees with what is popular.Same for any subject, not just movies.

        • Tejus

Nobody cares if the script was a copy of a cartoon show or some comic. Script is just one of the steps in making a movie. Taking a story and putting it on to the big screen are 2 completely different things. It involves lot of people and ideas and money and time and effort.. and even then it may not be successful. So getting all those mechanics right is not easy.. otherwise audience would be able to like every movie thats made right… which is not the case. So with MoS they got many of those things right.. visuals, characters, soundtracks, action sequences, sentiments, special effects, etc.. which made it a complete movie, which a person could enjoy from start to finish.
Now why do you have to compare it to something else and discredit it.. watch it for what it is.. a movie that is supposed to entertain.. not a documentary.
As for voicing your opinion.. ofcourse every individual has the freedom to express their opinion.. its a birth right definitely.. but its how we use it that matters.
This topic is about which movies we are looking forward to in the near future. And you come here and talk only about what you dont like. So like I said.. What’s the point? Am sure there are other topics out there talking about things that we dont like in the movies.
Anyway.. no offence to you.. its not just my opinion about your opinions.. its about their basis and their impact. But still eod it is just my opinion. Peace.

P.S: there is no need to type in CAPS in a discussion. We all feel strongly about one thing or the other here.. doesnt mean we need to shout about it.

          • supermanFan

Hi shiTejus. If this was the first succseful superman movie you dont know what Superman orignally is. MoS was more like some b-class sci-fi than Superman

          • supermanFan

Btw, they didnt get the charaters right. Nor the plot if you know the story behind superman. Smallville were way closer, and that was of by a long shot. Okey movie, but it wasnt superman

          • Tejus

Ok! Again i have to base my argument on the same logic. Do you think Superman is a real character? Do you think its a documentary? Creators are free to re-create segments or portions of a character/story as they deem suitable for the story..as long as they make it believable. It was the same case with Nolan’s Batman. There were lot of differences between Batman from DC comics and Nolan’s version. But still Nolan’s version was a huge success.
And regarding success, it depends on how you measure success. B-class sci-fi or whatever you call it… Man of steel = Superman, without any doubt, and it was the first successful movie since the first time they “tried” to create superman character on the big screen in 1978 (well..the first one was ok, but the rest were crap). I dont really care about the differences between different versions of superman. For me this movie was believable and i could feel the characters. No more argument needed for me.
Plus you have re-defined the term “B-class” by calling this a B-class movie. Anyway..everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the box office result speaks for itself.

          • James Stanford
