DreamWork’s upcoming film Turbo won’t be out till July, but it’s already gotten a deal for an original series, which will be called Turbo F.A.S.T. (short for Fast Action Stunt Team). DreamWorks already has three shows based on their film franchises with The Penguins of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness airing on Nickelodeon and Dragons: Riders of Berk on Cartoon Network. Unlike those series however, Turbo F.A.S.T. will air as original programming for Netflix.
Turbo is about a snail who, through a freak accident, gains super speed and competes in the Indianapolis 500. The film will star Ryan Reynolds and Paul Giamatti, although it’s unlikely we will see either of them on the Netflix series. The series may be a bit premature, as DreamWorks last film, Rise of the Guardians, was a major financial disappointment, although for the record I thought it was an excellent film.
Netflix is becoming a major player with some quality programming including House of Cards and the much anticipated fourth season of Arrested Development. Turbo F.A.S.T. marks the first time that Netflix will air an original program aimed at children. The series, which will air in December, will take place after the events of the film.
