It seems Pixar has a friend in just about everyone. Early reports suggest that Toy Story 3 took around $109 million during its opening weekend, which is a record for Pixar. All of Pixar’s 11 films have debuted at the No.1 spot however Toy Story 3‘s gross topped the $70.5 million taken by The Incredibles, and it will almost certainly gross more than $485 million worldwide which Toy Story 2 took way back in 1999.
Toy Story 3 has also received overwhelmingly positive reviews (99% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) which thankfully means it hasn’t suffered the dreaded ‘threequel curse’. To date only two critics have given it a ‘rotten’ rating, although after reading both reviews it’s clear they are only after attention/traffic to their sites. They blabber on about 3D ticket prices and consumerism rather than critique the film itself.
Anyhow, i’m sure there will be a party at Pixar HQ following another critically and financially successful movie. It’s a shame the UK has more than a month to wait before Toy Story 3 hits screens here, but I suppose it’s better than having to wait until September like Turkey!
Did you see Toy Story this weekend? What did you think?
