Tom Hardy has become a hot commodity following his appearance in Inception earlier this year. With Mad Max: Fury Road filming delayed until 2012 Hardy had his 2011 schedule opened up, which Christopher Nolan took advantage of by giving him a (possibly villainous) role in Batman 3. The actor is also a contender for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake, and now there are talks of him entering the world of Snow White.
The project takes a revisionist buddy movie spin on the tale, seeing the titular huntsman being hired by the evil queen to track down her runaway stepdaughter, the fairest in all the land. When he realizes that the queen intends to kill Snow White, he helps her escape, and the pair go on the run.
Universal have fast-tracked the project, and casting is currently underway, with commercial director Rupert Sanders making his feature debut on the film. With the project moving full steam ahead, we’ve received word from a source close to the production that Tom Hardy is circling one of the key roles as Eric, The Huntsman.
We’re also told that the studio are courting Angelina Jolie to play Ravenna, the evil queen and villain of the piece.
We’re not sure how interested Jolie would be given that she has her eyes set on playing Maleficient for Tim Burton, but I could definitely see Hardy playing The Huntsman if his schedule allows it. Batman 3 is expected to begin filming in April/May next year, so Universal will have to work around that.
