Tim Miller talks Deadpool, still waiting for the greenlight

Last year visual effects artist Tim Miller was hired to direct the Deadpool spin-off starring Ryan Reynolds. The prospect of an R-rated X-Men movie is a tricky one for 20th Century Fox, so they had Miller and Reynolds shoot some test footage to see if it would actually work.

We haven’t heard anything about the movie since, but in a recent interview Miller gave an update on where the project stands.

From Superhero Hype:

“We’ve turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that–I’m confident–would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it’s really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens–all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead.”

Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett wrote the script which has been described as “irreverent and violent”, so the studio is obviously taking a big risk here by making an R-rated movie with a new director. There were concerns Ryan Reynolds wouldn’t be able to play the Merc with a Mouth if Warner Bros. wanted to get going on a Green Lantern sequel, but as that’s unlikely to happen it’s just a waiting game until Fox decided to move forward or not.
