The Hunger Games won’t be released for another month, but according to movie ticket seller Fandango The Hunger Games has already surpassed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as Fandango’s biggest first day advance ticket-seller in its 12-year history.
It could be the case that fans are buying up tickets for the movie’s opening weekend, and the hype could die down after that. However, it’s also possible that Lionsgate has a Twilight-sized hit on its hands.
“‘The Hunger Games’ is off to a fantastic start,” says Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”
In related news, some new TV spots for the movie have been released online, and they contain new footage:
Directed by Gary Ross and based on the Suzanne Collins novel, The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
