The Hangover 3 unlikely according to Ed Helms

the hangover part 2 airport The Hangover 2 is just over 4 months away from its May release and the sequel sees Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travelling to Thailand for Stu’s wedding.

If it follows on from the success of the first movie which made $500 million worldwide and an extra $155 million on DVD/Blu-ray Warner Bros. will no doubt be asking for a third film, but Ed Helms can’t see it happening.

From The L.A Times:

“I doubt it,” he said, when asked if there would be a third installment. “I don’t think Todd [Phillips, the director] would let that happen…. I would hope that ‘The Hangover’ kind of has a dignified legacy, if that makes any sense.”

So if Todd Phillips has his way the gang will go out with a bang in The Hangover 2, with no third film or direct to DVD spin-offs. That would indeed be a dignified way to go out, if you can call anything related to The Hangover dignified, but if there’s money to be made Warner Bros. may find another way to milk The Hangover cow.
