There has been speculation recently that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be making an appearance in The Avengers 2, and it’s actually looking like it might happen. In the comics the characters are mutants and the children of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, but in the movie universe the characters could have been used by either 20th Century Fox or Marvel Studios as the rights were shared.
Well it seems Marvel has laid claim to the characters first, so Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be making their big screen début alongside Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and co. Director Joss Whedon confirmed to IGN that the duo will be in the sequel:
“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”
In the comics Quicksilver is a mutant capable of moving and thinking at superhuman speeds, while his sister the Scarlet Witch has had the power to alter reality and manipulate probability. Mutants haven’t really been established in the Marvel movie universe so their origins and powers may be tweaked. The super speed shouldn’t be a problem, but Scarlet Witch’s powers would suit the X-Men movies better. Saying that, both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have appeared in The Avengers comics numerous times so their inclusion in The Avengers 2 makes a lot of sense.
So far it’s looking like The Avengers 2 characters will include Tony Stark, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. With Marvel Phase Three in the works we could also see appearances from characters such as Black Panther, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, but that’s pure speculation at the moment.
