Columbia Pictures have released the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The film sees Andrew Garfield reprise his role as Peter Parker / Spiderman, and Emma Stone as his love interest Gwen Stacy.
Here’s the synopsis:
“In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough,” said Columbia.
“Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep.
“Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”
In terms of sequels, this definitely has great potential. I’m a huge fan of both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, both of their performances made up for an otherwise lacklustre previous outing. My concern largely rests in their choice of villains, especially after the huge disappointment of The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man.
Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) is inspired casting as Harry Osborn, though I’m not convinced that Electro and Rhino (played by Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti respectively) are characters capable of providing enough depth to a story that is already too reliant on the acting qualities of its too lead actors.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due for release in the UK on 18th April 2014 and in the US on 2nd May 2014.
