After the extensive viral marketing campaign for Cloverfield turned out to be so successful, its no surprise that J.J. Abrams intends to use the same formula to build buzz for his upcoming feature, Super 8. With the new trailer hitting the internet last week, fans of Abrams have already begun to look for clues. And it looks as though the people over at Unfiction forums have already hit on something substantial.
Right before the title shows up, the trailer rapidly flashes through a number of mysterious letters, that when screencapped and put together, form the words Scariest Thing I Ever Saw. Which, unsurprisingly, happens to be a website that was registered just a week before the trailer was released.
The website is open for exploration, and already a number of clues have been found. The most interesting of which was a countdown that eventually led to a few new promotion photos for the film. They, of course, led to the discovery of another website that is currently down and a secret message that reads “no certainty if a live may be after us we go underground”.
With all these ambiguous clues, there are obviously many theories being formulated around the internet, but most are leaning towards the possibility that the movie will have something to do with aliens, given that Area 51 was mentioned in the trailer.
