We’ve heard various whispers and rumors about various Star Wars spinoffs in the works in addition to the new trilogy, which will begin with the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode VII. Now we have official word from Bob Iger, Disney CEO, who confirmed to CNBC that spinoffs are in development and are being worked on by Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg.
Word has it that the first spinoff on the table is going to focus on Yoda, most likely on his past since he dies during Return of the Jedi. Oops, forgot to say spoiler alert. Some well known directors have voiced their desires to do spinoffs of some iconic characters, including Joe Johnston wanting to do a Boba Fett movie and Robert Rodriguez talking about doing a Han Solo film.
Of course which characters will be getting a spinoff is still purely speculation as Iger wouldn’t reveal any specific details. Iger also went on to say that the new trilogy will start in 2015 and be released over a six year period.
