J.J. Abrams will be taking a page out of Christopher Nolan’s book; the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Unlike The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, which revealed similar sneak peeks, Star Trek Into Darkness will be shown exclusively before IMAX 3D showings. The nine minutes of footage will only be shown on 500 IMAX 3D screens.
This is the second sneak peek we will be getting of the new Star Trek film, however this one is a bit more substantial than the one J.J. Abrams gave us last time. Abrams revealed a whopping three frames of footage on Conan last month, which featured Spock in a volcano. We should get a bit more info on the plot from these nine minutes.
Abrams directed 2009’s Star Trek and returned for the sequel along with most of the principal cast. Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 2D and 3D formats on May 17th 2013, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released December 14th.
