According to THR Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire) will be joining the Spider-Man reboot as a villain named “Van Atter”. This means Peter Parker may have to face more than one foe, as Rhys Ifans has already been confirmed as the films main villain, The Lizard.
Some fans have pointed out that Van Adder is actually the correct name for the character, and in the comics he was an employee of Osborn Industries and became a test subject for Norman Osborn (played by Willem Dafoe in the first Spider-Man movie) and as a result he turned into a demon-like monster the comics referred to as Proto-Goblin.
THR also reports that Campbell Scott (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and Julianne Nicholson (Snatch) will play Peter Parker’s parents, which will be the first time they have appeared on film. The site says “it is unclear if they will appear in flashbacks, in a prologue or during the course of the movie”, but we already know Martin Sheen and Sally Field will play Uncle Ben and Aunt May, so it looks like they will be Parker’s main parental figures.
Spider-Man will begin filming later this month under the direction of Marc Webb, and will be released July 2012.
