Bond 23 may have a release date of November 9th 2012, but it still needs to find a studio to actually distribute it. With the movie being Bond finding distribution isn’t a problem as each film is guaranteed to be a hit, it’s just a case of MGM and the producers deciding which studio will release the next installment to the masses.
Add 20th Century Fox to the list of studios looking to distribute upcoming MGM films, including, of course, the next installment in the James Bond franchise.
The new MGM management team of Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum has been talking informally to Paramount, where Barber and Birnbaum have a long-standing relationship. But last Friday, they also listened to a pitch from top Fox executives, who argue that their studio would do the best job exploiting Bond, as well as other future MGM films. They also believe they could wring the most out of the MGM library.
The site also mentions that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace distributor Sony Pictures is also a contender, and that negotiations will be ongoing over the next few weeks. Sony seemed to do a good job with the last two films, so i’d probably go for them.
No story details for Bond 23 are known, but Daniel Craig will be back as 007 with Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Jarhead) directing.
