After seeing Shailene Woodley recently star opposite George Clooney in The Descendants I thought it would only be a matter of time before she’d be getting more prominent roles, and that seems to be the case now as according to Variety the actress is in early talks to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
While it’s still in the early stages Woodley is said to be the studio’s leading choice to join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the sequel, which will have Marc Webb behind the camera once again. The studio is also said to be looking for an actor to play Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend (and eventual enemy) who was played by James Franco in the original trilogy. Mary Jane Watson was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst.

As for the villain in the next film, Variety says Electro is being considered, and there were hints to his inclusion during the post-credit scene in The Amazing Spider-Man. Electro, also known as Max Dillon, is an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. We haven’t seen the character on the big screen before, and it looks like the film-makers are trying to avoid using villains used in previous films to keep things interesting.
Filming is expected to begin in early 2013 so more news on this will be forthcoming. Would you be happy with adding Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, and Electro in the sequel?
