Shailene Woodley in talks to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

shailene woodley spiderman Image After seeing Shailene Woodley recently star opposite George Clooney in The Descendants I thought it would only be a matter of time before she’d be getting more prominent roles, and that seems to be the case now as according to Variety the actress is in early talks to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While it’s still in the early stages Woodley is said to be the studio’s leading choice to join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the sequel, which will have Marc Webb behind the camera once again. The studio is also said to be looking for an actor to play Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend (and eventual enemy) who was played by James Franco in the original trilogy. Mary Jane Watson was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst.

As for the villain in the next film, Variety says Electro is being considered, and there were hints to his inclusion during the post-credit scene in The Amazing Spider-Man. Electro, also known as Max Dillon, is an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. We haven’t seen the character on the big screen before, and it looks like the film-makers are trying to avoid using villains used in previous films to keep things interesting.

Filming is expected to begin in early 2013 so more news on this will be forthcoming. Would you be happy with adding Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, and Electro in the sequel?

    Electro? Way out of left field, but interesting. As long as his inclusion makes sense story-wise, and there’s no goofy looking headgear, it’s fine by me.

    she is a hot MJ, I like that! but I just saw spidey the first time and HAD NO CLUE THAT WAS A BLACK MAN IN THE CELL WITH CONNERS, did anyone else?
    at least the avengers movies did not hint with different characters! and if that was him in the cell IM already pissed because he was just a different dude in that cell I HATE IT WHEN THERE IS NO CONTINUITY, they knew this was a trilogy so if this is their choice they should have used foxx in the post credits scene!!! IMO

    kinda stupid as well because HE HAD NO BEST FRIEND in the first movie, that made him look like a loner? WTF already getting bad vibes about #2…. MARVEL NOT AT ITS BEST, they were putting all their efforts into the avengers and i think that its pretty important that if you have a best friend he should have been in the first! hopefully they meet and become BFF’s in #2 and then become enemies or this will be WAY TOO RUSHED
