In a recent interview with UOL Rodrigo Santoro, who played the Persian leader Xerxes in 300, revealed that he was in talks to reprise the role in 300: Battle of Artemisia. Now Coming Soon has confirmed that Santoro is officially on-board.
The film is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel that takes Xerxes and turns him into more of a pivotal figure. He’s a man in search of godhood after the death of his father, who died battling an Athenian warlord named Themistocles. The story takes place over the course of several years, but the focal point is the Battle of Artemisium, which took place around the same time as The Battle of Thermopylae which we saw in 300.
Eva Green (Casino Royale) will play Artemisia, a ruthless, gold-covered goddess who persuades Xerxes to amass his army and helps lead them into battle. Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) will play Themistocles.
Noam Murro (Smart People) is directing, and production is expected to start over the upcoming months. Warner Bros. has not yet set a release date.
