Well this looks pretty badass. After a somewhat underwhelming green band trailer, Universal Pictures has released a red band trailer courtesy of Comic-Con, and this thing looks pretty awesome after all. It’s amazing what a little bit of gore can do.
After the success Riddick’s first adventure, the low budget Pitch Black, a sequel was green-lit and director David Twohy planned to turn the franchise into a trilogy. However, 2004’s (and PG-13) The Chronicles of Riddick tanked with $57 million domestic against a budget of $105 million. It seemed all hope for another installment was lost. Well, it took almost ten years, but star Vin Diesel and director Twohy were so adamant about getting Riddick back on the big-screen that they’ve gone back to their (relatively) low-budget roots; making Riddick for a reported $40 million with an R-rating to boot.
Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.
Don’t f**k with Vin Diesel:
Riddick is set for release on September 6th.
