Legendary Pictures, the production company behind The Dark Knight, 300 and The Hangover, purchased the rights to Godzilla earlier this year with the aim of releasing an updated 3D version of the monster in 2012.
Nothing much has been heard since, although producer Brian Rogers recently spoke to Zennie62.com (via AICN) and gave an update on the project.
You can watch the interview below, and i’ve noted the main points:
- They are still aiming for a 2012 release
- They want to reboot Godzilla in a similar fashion Legendary Pictures rebooted the Batman franchise
- Godzilla will fight one or more monsters
- They want to pay homage to the old classics, and ignore the 1998 version from Sony
