Deadline has revealed that Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Avengers Assemble) is in talks to join Johnny Depp in Transcendence, the directorial debut from Inception cinematographer, Wally Pfister. Plot details are being kept under wraps but it has been confirmed that Bettany will co-star as a scientist, with Warner Bros’ scheduling the film for release on 25th April 2014.
Here’s the scoop:
Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star opposite Johnny Depp in Transcendence, the Alcon Entertainment film that marks the directing debut of Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer on Inception and many other films. Alcon partners Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing, and Nolan and Emma Thomas are exec producers. The film was scripted by Jack Paglen and the plot is being kept under wraps. The film will start production in the spring, and Bettany will play a scientist.
Next up for Paul Bettany is Iron Man 3 where he will reprise his role as the voice of Jarvis, Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence system. Robert Downey Jr returns as Tony Stark/Iron Man and the film boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle and Ben Kingsley.
Johnny Depp will be seen later this year as Tonto in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, opposite Armie Hammer as the titular hero. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and is scheduled for release in the US on 3rd July and in the UK on 9th August 2013.
