Yep, you read that right. According to THR Nicole Kidman will be playing the world’s first post-op transsexual alongside Charlize Theron in The Danish Girl.

Kidman will star in and produce “The Danish Girl,” based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for an female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.

When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.

Kidman and Charlize Theron are quite familiar with lesbian love, having won Oscars for their roles as lesbians in The Hours and Monster. No doubt this film will cause quite a stir and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was being treated as Oscar bait.

Jessica Alba will be playing a prostitute who gets murdered in The Killer Inside Me, according to THR. Casey Affleck will play a West Texas sheriff who goes on a downward spiral from being a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer.

The film is based off the novel by author Jim Thompson and it has been made into a film before in 1976. The Mighty Heart director Michael Winterbottom will direct.

I can see where Alba is trying to take her career. She wasn’t getting taken as a serious actress with films such as The Love Guru and Good Luck Chuck, so she must have told her agent she wants the total opposite of what she has been doing. As a result she is currently filming drama An Invisible Sign of My Own where she plays a genius, and now she will be playing a prostitute.

Next we can expect her to play a schizophrenic drug addict followed by a lesbian serial killer. She will get an Oscar and we will take her seriously!

Empire were given this rather cool poster for Defiance, which stars Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell. I saw the trailer for this on the big screen before my showing of Quantum of Solace yesterday and it gave me those good old ‘movie chills’, which I haven’t had for a while.

Three Jewish brothers escape from Nazi-occupied Poland into the Belarussian forest, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavor to build a village in order to protect themselves and others in danger.

Defiance will be released in January 2009.

Usually when actors/celebrities/musicians drop hints at what role they want to play in interviews I don’t post it because that’s all they are, hints. However, in this case there is more than just hinting, meetings have taken place!

In an interview with the LA Times Beyoncé Knowles said she was interested in playing Wonder Woman, and has already spoke to DC and Warner Brothers.

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?”

Beyoncé says that she has met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline.

Beyonce has been getting more involved with the acting world recently, after her role in Dreamgirls and two more movies being released by summer next year. Whether or not anything comes of these meetings is yet to be seen. It could just be the case that Beyonce is letting people know she is interested.

In other Watchmen news, Dark Horizons have word that we will get a new trailer with Quantum of Solace when it is released in the US on November 14th.

The second however is on its way, attached to ‘Quantum of Solace’ in theaters next Friday. Snyder says “I just saw the final version of it this morning… it’s a little bit more story, a teeny bit more like a full trailer. This is much more like ’someone’s picking off costume heroes’. You’ll get a sense of the characters plight you know, ‘we were supposed to make the world a better place… what happened to the American Dream’.” Some elements have had to be changed for the trailer, most notably Dr. Manhattan’s exposed genitals have had to be ‘defocused’ to be granted approval by the MPAA. He also confirms a third trailer will hit early in the new year.

A new trailer for Pixar’s Up has appeared online. The film follows a seventysomething year old hero and a clueless wilderness ranger sidekick who travel the world, fighting beasts and villains.

According to Variety, Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are in early discussions to collaborate on a remake of Chan Wook-park’s Oldboy.

In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he’s released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge. I haven’t seen the original, however it is ranked #117 on IMDB’s Top 250 movies, therefore it must be worth a view.

Spielberg had been looking for an opportunity to make a film with Smith, who would play the kidnapped man if all the pieces fall into place. Spielberg is currently looking for a writer to begin the development process.
