The release date shifting continues, and it seems May 2013 is the place to be. Earlier today Disney gave The Lone Ranger a new date of May 31, 2013, and now Warner Bros. has set Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim for May 10.
It was originally going to hit July 12, but competition from Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse and Tom Cruise’s Horizons may have caused Warner Bros. to rethink (sci-fi overload).
Pacific Rim will now open a week after Iron Man 3, and two weeks before Fast Six. Filming is scheduled to begin during the first week of November, and the cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Willem Dafoe, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, Diego Klattenhoff, and Clifton Collins Jr.
The movie is set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, and the planet must band together and use advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. del Toro has said it will be “the biggest giant monster movie ever made”.
