Because of course they made another Annabelle, and of course it’s a prequel. Good news is the first trailer is great, but maybe don’t watch it in the dark.
“Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.”
Now this looks a lot more interesting than the first spin-off. Honestly I think this prequel should have been the first Annabelle movie all along, not the sad excuse we got three years ago. Unfortunately for the studio that mistake might cost them at the box office. After being burned on the first film I don’t see nearly as many people (Annabelle made $84.3 million in the US and $256.9 million worldwide, all on a $6.5 million production budget) coming back for a prequel.
Lights Out director David F. Sandberg helmed the supernatural horror and Gary Dauberman wrote it. Mr. Dauberman is also credited for penning the first film, so I’m thinking I should adjust my expectations accordingly. Starring in the spin-off prequel are Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto.
Annabelle: Creation hits theaters come August 11th in the US and a few other countries. So far the film has no other competition that weekend, but that might change.
