When we left Mystique in X-Men: First Class she had just accepted her blue and scaly appearance and told Beast she was “mutant and proud”. In X-Men: Days of Future Past ten years will have past, so we can expect Jennifer Lawrence to play her character a bit differently as Mystique evolves into the stealthy badass we saw in the original trilogy.
From Sci-Fi Now:
“I’m naked,” says X-Men: Days Of Future Past’s Jennifer Lawrence, putting it bluntly. “But when I do get to wear clothes, I love the ’70s outfits.” She will be reprising her role as Mystique in the sequel to First Class, which is set 10 years later.
Lawrence’s costume is a little different this time around. She’s wearing a body suit rather than being covered in body paint, and it’s a darker shade of blue than in First Class. It looks more like Rebecca Romijn’s version of Mystique, but that’s not the only change to the character, as Lawrence explains:
“Some of the Mystique look is a little different, but we’re still using the same paint. But she’s different in this film too,” she tells SciFiNow exclusively. “She was struggling – like a lot of normal humans – with the way she looked, and she was covered up a lot in the first movie, but this time she is Mutant and proud.”
Footage descriptions from the Comic-Con trailer suggest the relationship between Mystique and Magneto has become more complex (Mystique was seen crying and being dragged along the floor by Magneto). Mystique was also seen in her human form so there’ll still be plenty of face time for Lawrence.
X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Daniel Cudmore, and Omar Sy. Filming is currently under-way in Montreal and 20th Century Fox has set a May 2014 release.
