Black ops, terrorists, revenge plots, blood, a whole lot of bullets and much more in the red band trailer for action movie American Assassin.
“Twenty three-year-old Mitch lost his parents to a tragic car accident at the age of fourteen, and his girlfriend to a terrorist attack just as they were engaged. Seeking revenge, he is enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy as a black ops recruit. Kennedy then assigns Cold War veteran Stan Hurley to train Mitch. Together they will later on investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on military and civilian targets. The discovery of a pattern in the violence leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative intent on starting a world war in the Middle East.”
That’s a lot of words and the plot of (almost) every action movie from the last three decades squeezed into one. That’s not to say it looks bad, there’s potential for something mildly entertaining here, and I bet they’ll definitely want to turn American Assassin into another action franchise (that is if people come). Here’s hoping this one doesn’t cut 50 times for a 15 second action sequence.
Michael Cuesta directed American Assassin while the screenplay was written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, based on the novel of the same name by Vince Flynn. Now that right there is a red flag, four credited writers for this? Starring in the film are Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch and Dylan O’Brien (is it just me or these two really look like brothers in this film).
American Assassin opens September 15th in the US and a few other countries.
