Transformers 4 is set to open June 2014, which means over the upcoming months we’ll be hearing a lot more details on the new set of humans who’ll be taking a tumble with the robots. Michael Bay has already confirmed that none of the cast from the Transformers trilogy will be returning, and now there’s word that Bay may be in early talks with Mark Wahlberg to lead the next film.
Though things are still very much in early days and there is a good road to go down before anything is official, Twitch has learned that Michael Bay is having early conversations with Mark Wahlberg to star in the upcoming, Paramount backed Transformers 4.
The script, written by Ehren Kruger (Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon), apparently focuses on a man (potentially Wahlberg) and his teenage child (no gender specified right now). The idea is the child will become the main protagonist as the new trilogy progresses.
Mark Wahlberg doesn’t really need Transformers 4 career-wise, but given it’s a guaranteed box office payday it wouldn’t be a bad decision ($$$) for him to make. Right now he’s busy producing and starring in his own movies (Contraband) and recently had success with Seth MacFarlane’s Ted which is getting a sequel. The actor has obviously impressed Michael Bay while shooting their low-budget action-comedy Pain & Gain which opens in April, and Bay might be looking for an actor familiar with the action genre to lead Transformers 4.
