Man of Steel plot details emerge

We got our first look at Henry Cavill as Superman earlier this month, but so far not a lot has been revealed/leaked about the plot. We know Michael Shannon will play the villain, General Zod, and German actress Antje Traue has been cast as villainess Faora, but that’s pretty much it.

Well ComicBookMovie recently came across an open casting call for Man of Steel looking for “local people to work as background artists” in Vancouver, and it contains what appears to be an official plot synopsis.

Here’s it is in full:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves

This seems to confirm Man of Steel will be an origins story. I’m not sure whether we need one, but Warner Bros. will be hoping to start a new trilogy will Henry Cavill, so starting at the beginning makes sense if they’re expecting more films.

What do Superman fans think of this (somewhat vague) synopsis?

Earth coming under attack? All of earth? Not just Metropolis? That sounds awesome to me… Superman is always best when he’s stretched thing between multiple encounters.

I think its bril that it’s starting from the beginning, exactly what I hoped for, the best superhero franchise of all time for a new generation with all the cgi and stuff they can do nowadays is gonna be bril

I just love superman and i think a Origins is a not a ood but a great call as the last superman was a pile of junk from casting to story i never think the casting of the previous superman was fit for the character as Lex Luthor or even Superman himself. Superman is a franchise that has gone under the grave after the past film to be honest and this time i think Henry Cavil is gonna get it out of the ashes. Zack Snyder has a great Visual Fx sense and with the visionary on his side Christopher Nolan this can even be an Epic. Have great expectations from this movie Love Superman & the plot is gripping for sure.
