Harry from AICN exclusively has the first trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete – the actual actual trailer; the film itself being based on a kinda mock-up trailer included in Grindhouse. So it’s a trailer of a film of a trailer, if you can wrap that round your head.
Due to the legislation recently passed in Arizona (regarding anti-immigration laws), Rodriguez and Danny Trejo decided to release this trailer “illegally” on Cinco de Mayo as a dedication to the people in Arizona – Machete deals with the topic of immigration too…albeit in a slightly different way.
Regarding the trailer itself, it looks like the same sort of spoof-exploitative over-the-top action-and-violence-filled fun that we’d expect from a feature-length take on one of the Grindhouse trailers, and seems as though it’s gonna be entertaining at the least. I’d forgotten what an absolutely ridiculous cast the film has (in a good way) – Danny Trejo, Robert de Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Rose McGowan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal… Hell, I was getting excited just at seeing Frank, Ana Lucia and Hurley’s dad from Lost all together in the same place. And I’ll always approve of the inclusion of more Michelle…
It looks like an enjoyable time just as Rodriguez’s Planet Terror half of Grindhouse was before it. I just hope it manages to maintain the sense of fun and fast-pacing throughout its running time, and not drag at times as Grindhouse occasionally did. Whatever the case, it’ll hopefully be fun enough just to see the huge number of stars in the cast interacting with one another. If that makes sense.
