Last month we heard that Leona Lewis would be singing the theme song for Avatar, in a similar fashion to what Celine Dion did for Titanic over a decade ago. Well the song is now online, and while I doubt it will become one of the biggest selling singles in history, it doesn’t sound that bad.

Listen below:

Some fans and movie sites have said they aren’t too keen on the song, however love power ballads are rarely targeted towards the online geek demographic. The song is one for the females, and I think that was Cameron’s aim.

In other Avatar news the final runtime for the film is apparently 161 minutes and 34 seconds, so just under three hours. This means you’ll be hearing the song above during the credits as your ass regains conciousness.

Does anybody know when the song was originally composed? ie what year?

She's a great singer and does a great job with the song, but if they were trying to make another "my heart will go on" they've failed. the lyrics are great, but overall I think Avatar deserved much better than an unoriginal pop song

she is a fantastic singer and doesnt need to up her game, stupid stupid comment from somebody who doesnt appreciate singing at its best, as if she needs to have advice off you.
its leona lewis stop comparing, you could compare any song if you wanted to,
but at least you know that it is leona singing.
im sure if britney was miming through her backside you would appreciate that more, sad people

To me, it kind of sounds like a sci-fi mash-up of Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" (the drawn out 'you' at the very end) and Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" (composed by Horner, duh!).

I love how she doesn't opt for any bombast vocalizing. It's really different from what I've heard from Leona. Vcurtz, that could explain why you think it's slow, because she just sings "I see you", not "I-I-I se-e-e you-u-a-ah..."

    It's lovely.

Oh no no, the vocals were amazing, I like when she doesn't do all her vibration singing. But I mean the build up to the part where the music seems to explode and give you chills. Like, the build up to 2:55ish, where it turns from a good song to an amazing song. I think anyway. :3 I just wish it built up to that point a bit faster, because I know most people won't have the patience to listen to the whole thing.

I like it, I love her voice. <3

I think I would have preferred it to have a shorter build up though. It's really long, with a looong build up. By the time it gets to the point where it gives you chills, people will have already left the theater.

It gets so beautiful at around 2:50. Wish it got the that point a bit quicker. Beautiful though.

the song aint that bad it kind of good. but Leona Lewis starts to piss me off with all these ballads that she does. she needs to step up her game with her music cause shes just doing the same old thing over and over again.

    I think it´s a pretty good song.
