After the surprise success of Taken, Liam Neeson has been bumped into A-list status. He’s found new life as an actor in the action genre, and he’s keeping that streak alive. Deadline reports that Neeson has signed on to lead A Walk Among The Tombstones, an action thriller set in New York City which features Neeson as a former cop (now an alcoholic private investigator) hired to find a drug dealer’s kidnapped wife. More info after the jump.
During the investigation, Scudder finds out that kidnappings like these have happened before and resulted in grisly murders. The story sounds pretty average, but then again, so did Taken, and we all saw what Neeson’s steely intensity did for that film. A Walk Among The Tombstones comes from a book series, and apparently Jeff Bridges played this lead character before in a film called 8 Million Ways to Die back in 1986.
Scott Frank (Minority Report, Out of Sight) wrote the screenplay, and though no director is set yet, filming is slated to begin in February of 2013. Even with a bland story and without a director, I can’t help but be optimistic about this project based on Frank’s history as a writer and Neeson’s inarguable status as one of the film world’s coolest badasses. What do you think?
Update: THR says that Frank is both writing and directing.
