Back in July it was reported that Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves, Waterworld) was in talks to join the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained as the sadistic trainer Ace Woody, who forces male slaves to fight to entertain the white patrons of Candyland.
However a tweet from Variety suggests Costner has been forced to drop out of the movie “due to scheduling conflicts”. No word on what other movie he’s supposed to be filming, but it means Tarantino will need to find a new right-hand man for Leonardo DiCaprio.
In the movie Django (Jamie Foxx) is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Samuel L. Jackson will play DiCario’s slave, Stephen, while Kerry Washington, who starred opposite Jamie Foxx in Ray, is in talks to play Django’s wife Broomhilda.
Filming will begin in November and The Weinstein Company has given Django Unchained a December 25, 2012 release date.
