This is the first official trailer for sequel Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and it’s very much not at all what I was expecting going in.
“In a brand new Jumanji adventure, four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.”
So it’s a video game version of the board game from the original film and Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are actually avatars for the four teenage kids that began the game. Guess that explains a few things (like Karen Gillan’s wardrobe) although I don’t know how I feel about it. Unfortunately so far I don’t think this will turn out all that well. Also teenage girl Jack Black is already becoming annoying, and this was just a trailer, can’t imagine what two hours of that will be like. Then again I might be wrong (really hope I am).
Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape) directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinker, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote it. Besides Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black also starring in this are Rhys Darby and Nick Jonas.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters December 20th in the US and a few other countries, 22 years after the Robin Williams starring original.
