During a Walt Disney Investors Conference Call Disney Chairman Bob Iger confirmed that Joss Whedon is signed on to both write and direct The Avengers sequel. Whedon will also create a TV series for ABC set within the Marvel universe.
The Avengers has made nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and following its release in May Marvel swiftly put a sequel into development. Fans will be happy about Whedon returning as he did a great job juggling all the characters, and I can’t really imagine anyone else taking on the sequel. No date is set, but given Marvel’s upcoming slate i’d say we can expect to see it in 2015 or 2016.
