Deadline has reported that another big Hollywood actor has been confirmed for the much anticipated follow-up to Robert Rodriguez’ critically acclaimed Sin City (2005). Josh Brolin (Gangster Squad, True Grit, MIB 3) will play Dwight, a role previously portrayed by Clive Owen in the original movie.
From Hollywood Reporter
“Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world, and A Dame to Kill For is a defining episode in his life,” said Rodriguez and Miller in a statement. “We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight.”
Dwight’s storyline was by far one of the more popular arcs from the original and this move is clearly intended to capitalise on Josh Brolin’s continued commercial success at the US Box Office. Also, updating the cast improves the sequel’s own chances of commercial success, especially when considering the eight-year gap between the movies, and subsequently the risk of limited audience interest and/or awareness.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants.
The star studded ensemble includes already announced original cast members Academy Award® nominee Mickey Rourke as “Marv,” Jessica Alba as “Nancy,” Rosario Dawson as “Gail” and Jaime King as “Goldie/Wendy” with new cast members Joseph Gordon-Levitt as “Johnny”.
Production is currently under-way for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and it is scheduled for a US release on October 4th 2013 through Dimension Films.
