Jennifer Lawrence will be honored this February as the Outstanding Performer of the Year at the Santa Barbra international film festival. Lawrence has received praise for her roles in The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook. She was also in House at the End of the Street earlier this year, but we can pretend like that one never happened.
Lawrence first gained widespread critical acclaim two years ago for her role in Winter’s Bone, which got her a best actress nomination, and many are predicting that she will be back in the Oscar race this year. She got the attention of many with her portrayal of the iconic character Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. The academy however, usually isn’t known for giving out awards and nominations films with science fiction elements. The indie Silver Lining Playbook is much more the academy’s speed however, and Lawrence is a frontrunner in the best actress race for that role.
Rodger Durling, executive director of the Santa Barbra Film Festival, mirrored the sentiment saying this about her receiving the Festival’s Performer of the year award:
Ms. Lawrence impressed us earlier this year in ‘The Hunger Games, but has now left us moonstruck with her career-defining performance in ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ Naming her our Outstanding Performer of the Year is an understatement.
The Hunger Games is out on DVD and Silver Linings Playbook is in a limited release in the U.S.
