Jason Momoa in talks to join Guardians of the Galaxy?

Latino Review claim that Jason Momoa (Bullet to the Head, Conan the Barbarian) has entered negotiations to join the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Momoa, best known as Khal Drogo from TV’s Game of Thrones, is said to have been testing for the role of Drax the Destroyer.

In the comics Arthur Douglas was a human whose family was attacked and killed by Thanos (the villain seen at the end of The Avengers). A being known as Kronos then took Arthur’s spirit and placed it in a powerful new body with enhanced strength and resilience and flight. Drax the Destroyer was born.

Jason Momoa was allegedly so impressive during his recent screen test that studio execs wanted to snap him up immediately:

Looks like Marvel found their guy to play Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Jason Momoa who played Conan in the Lionsgate reboot, and is best known for playing Khal Drogo in the first season of Game Of Thrones, flew out to London to screen test on Wednesday. It was reported earlier that Isiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick also tested the role of Drax.

According to sources, Momoa’s screen test went so good that Marvel offered him the part and his reps have now countered, so the negotiations are ongoing.

Jason Momoa is a quality actor who until now, has failed to achieve the recognition that he deserves. His unsuccessful stint as Conan was a huge disappointment, but that was largely due to a very poor script. He is nevertheless a huge acting talent and boasts an intimidating cinematic presence that compliments his quiet arrogance.

If Momoa lands the role he’ll join Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty, Wanted) who has recently signed up for the lead role of Star-Lord. Filming is due to commence in June 2013 for an August 2014 release.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be directed by James Gunn (Slither) and is part of Marvel’s Phase Two slate of films.
