Marvel Studios just announced their choice to play the evil robotic villain Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and that actor is James Spader. Recently, there was speculation that Paul Bettany (voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in the Iron Man films) would be voicing Ultron, but that is not the case. Spader is no stranger to villainous roles, having served as the antagonist in such films as Pretty in Pink, Wolf, Stargate, 2 Days in the Valley, and Secretary. He was even sort of a bad guy (at the very least an a-hole) on the last season of NBC’s The Office. Ultron will obviously be his highest profile villain to date.
If you’ve seen Spader’s previous work, he certainly has the ability to put on a menacing/sinister voice that should fit quite well with the character. In the Marvel sequel, “The US Government creates a force, known as Ultron, and The Avengers are told they are no longer needed. But when Ultron turns against Humanity, it’s time for The Avengers to assemble yet again for their most dangerous challenge ever.”
Returning for the sequel are Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). The new cast members include Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), and now James Spader (Ultron).
Written/directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1st, 2015.
