Most of us know the story of Alice in Wonderland from previous incarnations, such as the Disney version. A young girl ventures down a rabbit hole and enters a weird world with wonderful characters. We’ve been following Tim Burton’s 3D version for a while now, and it was assumed it would be the same story just in live action with actors and CGI. However, director Tim Burton recently spoke to Disney magazine D23 and revealed that his version may be a little different from what we have previously seen.
Transcribed by The Tim Burton Collective:
”Everybody’s got an image of Wonderland, such as the Disney version which is bright and cartoony,” he continues. ”I think in people’s minds, it’s always a very bright place. I don’t know if that’s accurate or not, but we thought given what this story is, if Alice had this adventure as a little girl and now she’s going back all these years later, it’s a bit overgrown, the topiaries aren’t as nicely cut as they once were. There’s a slightly haunted quality to Wonderland, even though it’s got strong elements of color.”
So in Burton’s film Alice is returning to Wonderland. I’m not sure if this qualifies as a sequel, although it will be interesting to see a different take on things.
