While promoting his upcoming robot boxing movie Real Steel at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday Hugh Jackman spoke briefly about The Wolverine. He confirmed that shooting will begin later this year, and that James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) will be directing. He also revealed the villain Wolverine will be taking on.
Possible spoilers from ScreenRant:
“I’m filming Les Miserables in February, but before that I will be filming Wolverine 2 in October. Chris McQuarrie has written a fantastic script and it should turn out really good. I’ll fight the Silver Samurai in it so that should be exciting. Most of the filming will take place in Japan.”
You can see a video of Jackson talking about The Wolverine below. He talks briefly about Darren Aronofsky’s involvement, and addresses a question regarding whether any mutants from the X-Men trilogy will be making an appearance.

The the comics The Silver Samurai (real name Kenuichio Harada) is the half-brother of Wolverine’s lover Mariko Yashida. His mutant ability allows him to generate a field of tachyonic energy around his katana that allows it to cut through almost any material on earth except for adamantium (how convenient for Wolverine).
