DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox recently released the first teaser for Turbo, their upcoming feature about a snail that dreams of becoming the fastest his kind has ever seen.
So if trailers for a movie about magicians or a comedy about the end of the world didn’t get you excited, then a garden snail voiced by Ryan Reynolds that’s trying to break every speed record ever set by a snail should maybe do the trick.
Ok, so the trailer starts a bit misleading with an Indy race narrated by a voice which I first though was coming from the actual driver of the car presented there. That first half gave a very strong Cars vibe, leaving me with a big question mark in my mind. But then came the revelation of the 2nd half, the actual narrator, a snail preparing to beat some kind of very short distance record (“YES, 17 minutes, that’s a new record”). So I’m quite interested to see where they take the concept and at the very least it will probably be entertaining.
Making his big screen directorial debut with Turbo is David Soren, who has previously worked on animations such as Chicken Run and Shrek. Lending their voices to characters in Turbo are in no particular order: Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena, Paul Giamatti, Snoop Dogg, Richard Jenkins, Luis Guzman, Bill Hader and Ken Jeong among others.
Turbo opens July 19th in North America and October 18th in the UK (don’t ask).
So thoughts on this one, good, bad, ok?
