February 5th has been announced as the date for the DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and on-demand release for Flight. The film is getting a bit of Oscar buzz, especially for Denzel Washington, who is up for best actor in a drama at the Golden Globes. Flight is the first live action film directed by Robert Zemeckis since 2000’s Cast Away.
The film is one of the few highly hyped films of the year that didn’t disappoint at least somebody, and it was for good reason. Robert Zemeckis hasn’t lost a step in his twelve year absence; Flight is undoubtedly one of the best films in 2012, a year which had some pretty impressive movies.
Denzel Washington’s portrayal of the alcoholic pilot Whip Whitaker is superb. The rest of the cast including; John Goodman, Bruce Greenwood, Kelly Reilly and Don Cheadle are all pretty spectacular too.
Flight is somewhere between long-shot and contender for a best picture nomination, and the same could be said in the director’s category. Frankly I’d be more than happy to see Flight nominated in either category than some of the more likely contenders, and will certainly be picking up a copy when it’s released in February.
