cloud atlas banner Image When our first look at Cloud Atlas was a 5 and a half minute long trailer I knew it was going to be a challenge for Warner Bros. to eventually whittle the footage down to a short 30 second TV spot. There’s too much story and explanation to cram into so little time, so it makes sense that the studio would just go for the ‘epic’ angle with the first official TV spot.

Watch below:

The film, based on David Mitchell’s novel, follows multiple characters throughout six stories each set in different time periods. Director Tom Tykwer (who co-directed with The Wachowskis) described it as a “big-scale adult movie”, and reviews from the first official screening in Toronto have ranged from “a massive cinematic accomplishment on the grandest scale” to “messy and disappointingly unimaginative”.

It currently sites at an encouraging 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, and opens October 26th in the US, while the UK and Australia have to wait until February 2013.
