First trailer for The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby Filmonic Image

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel set in New York City during the Roaring ’20s. The 3D movie has a stellar cast comprised of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, and more. Take a look below and see it for yourselves.

I’m one of the uncultured slobs who was never forced to read this book in school, and I’m sad to say I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. Despite the grand visual style we see on display here, this actually looks like it may be one of the most accessible films Luhrmann has ever directed. It’s cool to see Leo reuniting with Luhrmann for the first time since Romeo + Juliet back in 1996, and I particularly enjoyed the quick flashes of actor Jason Clarke, who starred on the terrific FOX series “The Chicago Code” before it was unceremoniously cancelled after one season; Clarke deserves a shot at the big leagues, and working with this cast seems to be exactly what he needs to take him to the next level.

What did you think of the trailer? Are you excited about seeing this version of The Great Gatsby?

How does someone become a theater critic without having read one of the masterpieces of 20th century fiction? How can such a person admit his ignorance without shame. What literary context is provided by a know nothing? Scott Fitzgerald must be turning in his grave. This site is impoverished.
