In a recent interview with IGN Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, writers of Toy Story, Cheaper by the Dozen and Garfield, dropped a big hint regarding a project they are currently working on.
“We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can’t really say too much on that front yet, but ‘Old MacDonald’ didn’t have a factory, if you get our drift.”
That can only mean one thing. FarmVille: The Movie.
If you’re one of the 800 million active users on Facebook you will have come across FarmVille at some point, whether you’ve received annoying invites, had friends stop mid-conversation to harvest strawberries on their smartphone, or actually played the game yourself (guilty).
For those unaware of FarmVille, it’s an app/game which involves various aspects of farm management such as plowing land, planting, growing and harvesting crops, harvesting trees and bushes, and raising livestock. It’s the third most popular Facebook game, and back in February it had 31 million daily active users. Regardless of whether the world needs a FarmVille movie, game developer Zynga is obviously keen to expand the brand beyond the game, and a movie will certainly do that (as well as increase merchandise sales, which is the real money-maker nowadays).
I’m sure I already know the answer to this, but do you want to see a FarmVille movie?
