We heard around 2 weeks ago that Emily Blunt was in negotiations to play Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in Iron Man 2. However, according to Variety she has now been offered a role in comedy Gulliver’s Travels alongside Jack Black. One problem here is that they both start filming at the same time, around March/April time. When Blunt signed up for The Devil Wears Prada her contract involved doing more Fox films, and this is one of them. This happens a lot nowadays, the only reason Dania Ramirez had a role in X-Men 3 is because she had a similar contract with Fox.
Out of the two projects Iron Man 2 will probably be better for her career, as it will no doubt be a bigger hit than Gulliver’s Travels, plus there is the chance she could end up in sequels and The Avengers.
Earlier this week it seemed that Marvel Entertainment would have to go back to the drawing board to find an actress to play Natasha Romanoff, the Soviet superspy who moonlights as Black Widow, a beauty in a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weaponry. But by late Thursday, it looked like Fox and Blunt’s reps were feeling more optimistic that she could do both projects.
I really hope everything is sorted out and Blunt is able to do Iron Man 2. I couldn’t give a toot for Gulliver’s Travels.
