A few days ago it was confirmed that New Line would be moving forward with a sequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island after it grossed $270 million in less than a month. Now The Wrap reports that Dwayne Johnson is in talks to return.
Director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn have already signed on for the third film, and Josh Hutcherson is also expected to be back. No story details have been revealed but Peyton said it would be a lot “bigger” and they’ll be venturing to “a completely different world”.
This will be another movie to add to Johnson’s upcoming slate, but that’s what happens when an actor joins multiple franchises. Johnson will shoot Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain and Fast and the Furious 5 over the upcoming months, and then he’ll play Hercules for Brett Ratner later this year. He’s also recently joined “an intense action thriller” called Ciudad, and will be seen in G.I. Joe: Retaliation in June.
