chris evans captain america We heard last week that Marvel had offered the role to the actor, and now according to Variety Chris Evans has accepted and will be Captain America. The deal includes starring in at least 3 Captain America movies, as well as The Avengers which will be released in 2012.

Evans beat out guys such as John Krasinksi, Chace Crawford, Ryan Phillippe, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter and Wilson Blethel, and will be heading to London in a few months time where Captain America will begin filming under the direction of Joe Johnston.

Hugo Weaving has already signed up to play the villain, Red Skull, and Marvel has made offers to a number of British actresses such as Emily Blunt and Keira Knightley to play the female lead and love interest.

Captain America will be released on July 22nd 2011, two months after we see Chris Hemsworth wield the hammer in Thor.

How do you feel about this casting? Would you have preferred any of the other actors mentioned above? How do you feel now all the leads in The Avengers have been cast?

If he takes the role seriously, he may be able to pull it off, one thing he can not do is joke around like in FF4.

Im way more worried about Joe Johnston then Chris Evans…he has shown in Sunshine that he can be serious…but if Joe Johnston says “dude be comedic” then it'll be suck.

I am confident that Joe Johnston can make this into a great movie, I think that his previous movies are pretty good and I don't blame him for The Wolfman.

But he DID do good as Johnny Storm. He was spot on in that role; he was suppose to be joking around in that role. I think he'll understand that Johnny Storm and Captain America aren't the same person and he'll obviously need to adapt. He impressed the movie guys somehow, so, I'm willing to give him a chance. :) He looks the part at least, and he has some good acting chops so far.

They DID say they were going to go for an unknown though. I'm surprised they went for Evans.

I would'nt really call him a Known either…if you would ask the majority who played the role of the human torch in FF … most wouldnt know

    True.
